In my previous post I talked about what to do before arriving in Australia and what to do when you arrive with a working holiday visa.
When you have done all of that it is time to find a job!
6 tips to find a job in Australia
Resume
It is important to have a good resume. Do research to make a good Australian resume. I can tell you that the resume for Belgium and Australia are totally different and if I would have applied with my Belgium one I definitely never got a job.
If you aren’t sure about your English ask someone to look at it.
You can do this before you leave. This takes time and nothing is more annoying to find a computer to make a resume when you would radar be outside exploring. Believe me!
Print your resume out a couple of times and go from store to store.
Most hostels also have a board where you can find potential job offers.
Hygiene
Even though it is only a working holiday you still need to look decent when applying for a job.
When you are going from store to store looking fresh and decent will help a lot.
Online
Thank you Internet! You can even start applying for jobs when you are still in your country!
Seek (seek.com.au) is one of the most famous job sites. You can also look on Gumtree (gumtree.com.au) but be careful here. Here you can also sell and find other stuff.
Even facebook has pages for working holiday workers. I got my au pair job through a facebook page.
For some businesses you have to apply online like hotels.
RSA and RSG
If you want to work in hospitality you will need a RSA (responsible service of alcohol), which you can apply for online. There are many different ones. I did it with Ulearn but that website doesn’t exist anymore but when you are looking for a good RSA website look at the different prices and try to do all states in one (except Victoria and Tasmania). Galaxy training looks good and you can also apply for a RSG (responsible service of gambling).
Time
Looking around, applying and getting an interview can take time. Don’t travel until you have no money left to find a job. This almost happened to me.
Be patience. I know that’s hard when you really need to find a job but people will contact you because it just takes time for businesses to contact you. What you can also do is start applying when you arrive in the country but still travel.
Just make sure you don’t gamble on one job.
Outback and volunteer
Working in the outback or as a volunteer, like WWOOF, it is possible to get a second year visa. In some outback places you get paid, food and accommodation so this is also a very good idea to save up some money and you get a one-life experience.
Great tips.
I’m planning to relocate in AU but still no action yet.
Ahahah.
I hope i can land a job there soon
