I think going on a city tour is very touristy but I just love them. I know, I’m weird.
Because you will always find new places and most of the time you wouldn’t even thought about going to that part of the city. Plus you will also hear a lot about the history of the places.
That’s why when we were in Madrid we went on the Madrid City Tour. We only did one day but I would recommend doing two days because a day ticket is €21 euro and a two-day ticket is €25 so it’s only €4 extra but it’s definitely worth it.
The city tour has two routes. One route stays more in the centre city and the other route goes as far as the Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid’s stadium. Blog about the stadium is coming soon.
The first time you walk into the bus you will get headphones for the audio (in different languages available) and a map. On the map you can see where you can switch to get on the other route. On one bus the audio wasn’t working well where I was sitting so I switched places. I was lucky to be on a bus that wasn’t to busy but otherwise this would be a problem if you really want to hear the audio.
I have been on city tours where you have to wait 30 minutes for the other bus. In Madrid you won’t have that problem because in the high season you only have to wait 8 minutes between busses and in the low season 14 minutes. Depending on traffic of course.
Naomi and I really enjoyed the city tour. We saw a lot, got off quit often and had some tapas near the Santiago Bernabéu but we did discover there is so much more to do in Madrid than we realized. So we need to come back and explore some more!
I would recommend doing the Madrid City Tour when you are in Madrid because you will see all Madrid’s beautiful sights.
Madrid is a gorgeous city and I can’t wait to go back and explore some more.
Do you like city tours or do you think it’s too touristic?
Hours:
Low season: (November to February): 10am-6pm

Time between buses:
Low season: 14-15 minutes
High season: 8-9 minutes
(Depending on traffic)
I have never tried city tours but I would love to. A way to explore the city while learning the history about it. Beautiful pictures by the way. I would like to go to Madrid one day π
