Australia has lots of zoo’s and sanctuaries. Taronga Zoo is one of them and is located in Sydney. It’s not as big as the Australia Zoo in Brisbane or cozy as the Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane but it has the most amazing view of all. There are free shows and talks and you can meet your favorite animal (payed).
Because I had my own car and came from the north I drove to the zoo and parked my car at the parking garage ($17). It is also possible to get the ferry from the city into the zoo.
Which is a better plan if you are staying in the city and don’t have a car.
I got a map and started at the koalas but because I went to the koala sanctuary in Brisbane I didn’t stay long. Then I was of to the reptile world, African Safari, bird shows, etc.
The seal show was actually pretty cool so I would recommend it for all ages.
You can also feed and pet the kangaroos.
There is also a Sky Safari. This is a cable car that goes from the bottom to the top and back over the zoo. I thought I had to pay for it but it turned out that it was included in your entry fee. So I missed out on that.
The zoo also goes down hill, so you will feel it in your legs when you walk back up and that’s when the cable car comes in handy.
There are lots of places to eat and drink but I would recommend bringing your own. This is much cheaper and you can decide whenever you want to eat and even with a view!
As you can see from my photos I was amazed by the beautiful view of the Taronga Zoo!
Conclusion:
I did the Australia Zoo (Brisbane) twice and I also went to the Koala Sanctuary (Brisbane) which meant I got ‘bored’ really fast because I already did the feeding of the kangaroos and taking a picture with a koala and doing it again was for me a waste of money because I was still on a budget. So I would recommend not going to the zoo to often! Haha.
But other than that it is still worth going! Also make sure you plan a whole day because there is so much to see and do!

This zoo looks like the best option if you are staying in Sydney and want to get a feel for the animals unique to the Australian continent. The location is certainly central and that is some fantastic view of Sydney harbor! I would definitely want to spend a day here when in Sydney.
I’m quite sure I visited this zoo back in 1980. I traveled through Australia for a month and visited a zoo in Sydney. It must have been this one. I also like the Singapore Zoo.
I haven’t been to Taronga Zoo in years! And I haven’t even taken my daughter. I’ve heard that it has changed so much over the years and I’d love to do their overnight stay or when Vivid is on as I’ve heard its absolutely stunning!
Was. It aware that Australia had so many zoos to offer. Toronga is a great zoo and in close proximity of a city like Sydney. It’s got a good collection of animals and some great views of the city. It’s great to find things like these when you travel with kids. Thanks for sharing a informative post.
This looks like a fun day out in Sydney. It”s great you can get up and close to the animals, and the sound of the cable car is my kind of attraction. Thanks for sharing this!
It was many years back, when I went for Taronga zoo and I must say it was an amazing experience. The view of Sydney from top is amazing. There are lot of exotic animals here in this zoo and kids love them specially. Even reaching through cable car to this point is an amazing experience.
I love zoos – especially when I get to see so many different animals 😀 I live in Germany and here exotic animals are really rare. But the Taronga zoo looks so nice! Would love to visit it someday!
Zoos can be wonderful to see a plethora of animals in one area! & definitely and option for anyone! I have found I appreciate more animals in the wild though, because of zoos. Beautiful photos!
I love visiting Zoos. It’s such a cool way to see a lot of marvellous animals in one place. These lovely creatures always fascinate me and make me wonder at the beautiful art of Mother Nature. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to visit Taronga Zoo someday and admire these amazing creatures in person. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Eh I’m not much of a zoo person but that koala sanctuary sounds like a cool experience I’d be interested in!
I enjoyed visiting the zoo, and also listening to their caretakers on how they pet them and take care of them. This zoo is perfect for kids as part of educational tour.
Where is your next zoo tour?
I haven’t been to zoo till now. I love watching wild animal in a national park on safaris. But Taronga Zoo looks like a great option for a day out with children. Loved reading about it
I love visiting Zoos when I have the time. It’s such a good way to see a lot of animals in one place. Always aware if they are good zoos toi that are not mistreating animals. Hopefully will get a chance to visit Taronga Zoo soon!
