As you may know, I like to explore a new city with a (free) walking tour, city bus or with a bike tour. When I visited Valencia I heard a lot of positive stories that you have to explore Valencia with a bike tour.
So that’s what I did! After a little research I booked my bike tour with Baja Bikes.
Explore Valencia with a bike tour!
First we went to the Turia Gardens where our guide introduced herself, I completely forgot her name, and talked about what we were going to see during our 3 hour bike tour. You could already hear that she loves her job and Valencia. Now it was time to start the tour.
The Turia gardens used to be a river but because of a severe flooding in 1957 they decided to drain the river and eventually made a park out of it.
The Turia garden is constantly busy with people running, riding their bikes, walking, playing sports and so on.
The City of Arts and Sciences
One of the must stops in Valencia is Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias also known as the City of Arts and Sciences. Here you will find the famous buildings of Palau de les Arts, L’Hemisfèric, the Oceanografic and more!
The L’Hemisfèric was designed by Santiago Calatrava and was finished in 1998. The original budget was €300 million but it eventually costed 3 times the original budget!
We were lucky to see L’Hemisfèric eye open! Apparently this doesn’t happen often.
Here we tasted the famous Horchata drink. It looks like milk but is made out of chufas, a tiger nut.
Barrio del Carmen
We also explored the neighberhood Barrio del Carmen. Which is located near Torres de Serranos and Torres de Quart. It also has some cool street art!
During the day Barrio del Carmen is a place where you can relax, shop, drink and eat. But from 10pm nightlife begins and you won’t recognize the relaxing vibe during the day. I haven’t experienced it yet but I would love to see this place during nightlife!
Colon Markt
We had some time to explore at the Colon Markt. Which is a pretty cool building but for some reason I didn’t take a picture! It was a nice quick stop to use the toilet and get a drink.
Plazas in Valencia
We rode thru a couple plazas during our tour. Two of them were Plaza de la Reina and Plaza de la Virgen. At Plaza de la Reina you will find the Cathedral where you can visit the Chapel of the Holy Grail. I personally think this Cathedral is a must visit!
If you want to explore Valencia and learn more about the city I highly recommend doing this bike tour. We did the Valencia Highlight tour. After the bike tour we had some lunch and explore more of Valencia by foot.
Eating some Paella
After exploring Valencia on bike we decided to have some lunch. It was no brainer that we had to eat some Paella while in Valencia!
And that’s what we did. It was so good!
I will be visiting Valencia much more in the future so keep an eye out for more posts!
